IF - Legendary

Okay. Here's my attempt at making my new painting fit the Illustration Friday theme of Legendary.

I'm a mom of 3 boys.
My first 2 boys are only 13 months apart.
You'd think, "oh how nice. they'll grow up with a best bud right under the same roof".
Yeah. NOt so much.
Although they rarely fight now, if they got along for any length of time when they were little...well, that was a legendary day.

Here are some pictures of them getting along.

We had to be aware that at any given moment that rolling pin or fork could become a weapon.
(note fork marks clearly visible on Aaron's otherwise perfect Kindergarten picture.)

What do you think? Did I pull it off? No?
Anyway, "Best Buds" can be found here.

  2. Bonjour Diane!

Wonderful painting of boys! You paint them so well! I have only painted boys and men a few times and should add them to paintings some times... Your boys were the sweetest! I have only one kid and never felt bad about it as Francois's 3 sons from a prior relations were more often fighting than getting along... Have a wonderful weekend! LuLu

  4. I love it! lol I have girls who are 15 months apart--I know where you are coming from. Their personalities are very different. But at 19 and 20 they are best buddies, especially now that one is away at college, they miss each other a lot and really appreciate their time together. The kindergarten fork pic is precious! I have a Christmas pic where one of mine has a black eye!

  5. I love this painting Diane! Especially the frog in the pocket. I'm giggling here.

My kiddos are 15 months apart. A girl and a boy. I thought it would be perfect, best pals. They fight like cats and dogs most of the time. lol

    Have a great weekend!

  10. He threw the fork at him.
He didn't just walk up and stab him in the face.
Don't know if that's any better or not. :)

  12. If this had been about a girl and a boy it could have been me and my brother. :)

  13. I have 2 cousins (brothers) who were forbidden to watch The Three Stooges on Saturday mornings when they were kids. They tried all the stunts on each other (for real)! Of course, "Don't try this at home" was a phrase not coined until years later. However, they finally grew up & became friends. It's always amazed me that boys live long enough to grow up. Your cute little guys look like typical boys. They are a great inspiration for your smile inducing painting. The frog in the pocket is the perfect touch.

  20. oh my gosh how cute!! It just makes me giggle because my boys are constantly trying to kill each other. I guess that's not really giggle material...but when you are a mom to boys you understand;) xoxox

  21. I sure can relate! My boys are 20 months apart. I knew I was in trouble when they were 2 and 3, and fighting at the toilet, over who could pee longer...always a competition! Beautiful art!

  22. Hee hee, so cute. Your boys were little dolls when they were little! Love those jammies.

I have two little girls... and it is indeed a legendary day when they decide to get along.

  23. Oh gosh those boys are the sweetest. I bet people used to ask if they were twins. The fork---yikes! Boys are def a different breed. My husband and I both only ever had girls (four between the two of us) and when this grandson came along we'd just look at each and ask, "What planet did he come from?" lol. I sure have enjoyed having him around, tho. In a lot of ways they're way easier. More dangerous physically, but easier just the same.

Are you going to have any prints of it for sale in your etsy?

  25. Oh, I can relate. My two boys were 5 years apart and they were still at each other all the time. My oldest one kept checking to see if the mailman could take the youngest one back to the hospital. We had some stitches from their encounters but no fork marks.

  26. MY boys have exactly 7 years between each of them. When they were growing up that meant that the three of them were not all that close. Now the oldest is 32, middle 27 and youngest 20, and I am happy to say they are wonderful friends with each other. Whew! Love your sweet picture as always!

  27. So funny, your sons will treasure those photo's forever. The scene works so well, it's like it was staged by someone with a silly sense of humor ~ what angel is watching over your family anyways? :)
