Not my original post

Some of you may have seen my original post about my frogs and some frog dolls and patterns that bear on uncanny resemblance.
I decided I should wait until I can contact her before saying anything (else) here.
I thought I would feel better writing about it, but I didn't.
I want to be fair and give her a chance to respond.
All I want is credit if I am due credit.
Only she knows if I am.
For those of you who did see the original post, thanks for your support. :)

  3. I didn't read all of your original post but it showed up on my dashboard. I know who you are referring to and I did notice a resemblance to the doll and your painting. Maybe she thought because it was a different medium than what you work in it would be okay to use your froggies as inspiration. It is an ethical question to be sure. I did my first Frida painting last week and I tried to be original but I know I have a lot of people to thank for the inspiration. Where is the line between "inspiration" and "down right stealing"? I've always enjoyed looking at your original pieces of art.

  5. hi diane! i didn't see a post, but i never like the sound of someone not getting credit where credit is due. i hope that the situation works itself out soon. i agree with heidi...there is a line, and i think that most people try to respect that! :)

  6. Oh Diane, How awful to have someone blatantly steal your work. I hope I never see it, I tend to be too frank at times when I see something that looks too much like someone elses. You are so kind to give this person a chance to explain or credit you as her inspiration.

  7. I can see the post in google reader...no doubt she's seen your frogs. The best I can think to say is that at least she did a good job on them. I've seen copycats do such mucked-up jobs it made it even MORE painful. After seeing this happen to talented people time and again for the past several years, I'm starting to think one hasn't really 'arrived' until someone else is outright copying them. I don't see how it's ever going to go away as long as we keep putting our stuff out here. I do know that it makes your stomach turn and your head think angry thoughts. Time heals Di. Just be true to who YOU are. Like dh always says, "In a big vat of bubbling shit, the truth always floats to the top." (somehow I thought that'd be appropriate to say.)
    love,

  8. Good for you for giving the benefit of the doubt! I do hope she is being honest with you. Seeing your artwork in someone else's without your permission has got to be a horrible feeling.

  10. I didn't see the copy but I am sorry this happened to you! Hopefully you can get it resolved. The only GOOD thing is that everyone thinks your stuff is SO cute so that is why it was copied (not that that is an excuse for stealing!)

  11. aw diane... was the situation resolved??? did you get an answer?? sigh... i totally understand how you feel... and how you want to say something but dont know if its right or wrong to feel if someone is stealing your stuff... should you assume not? or feel betrayed in a way? so many people feel inspiration and copying are not the same yet the outcome IS the same... i've taken a break because of the same thing... i really hope you get an answer, a resolution, SOMETHING! your work is super beautiful, utterly unique, and ORIGINAL [although, people these days dont believe in originality or that it exists]... biggest hugs sweet friend
